THE Yowie has made himself right at home at Clifford Park.
The former Victorian runner made it two wins from two starts in his new of Toowoomba on Saturday night when the four-year-old gelding took out the Vanderfield Class 3 Handicap (1300m).
The Yowie ($2.20fav) held off fast-finishing How Can I Help ($3.60) to win by a nose.
Trainer Tony Sears has saddled The Yowie for two runs at Clifford Park for two wins, which sandwiched an unplaced run at Ipswich.
Given his immediate success at Clifford Park, connections could push on with plans to prepare for a tilt at next year's Weetwood Handicap.
It was a good night for Sears as he had two other winners in Bahsa and Red Kisses.
Bahsa took out the Dawn Osborne Florist Benchmark 75 Handicap (1100m) while Red Kisses also made Sears wait until the final stride to celebrate as the $1.80 favourite won the Grand Central QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1100m) by a nose from Zip to the Moon.
That win gave jockey Skye Bogenhuber two winners for the night, while Brooke Stower brought up three victories in empathic style in the last race.
Stower was on board $1.90 favourite Ultimate Rush when it romped home in the Neil Mansell Transport Maiden Handicap over 1050 metres by nine lengths for trainer Kevin Kemp.
The Stower-Kemp partnership also kicked home Aquamarine to a breakthrough win in the XXXX Gold Maiden Plate (1625m).
Minor summer series success
REAL Favulous represented Toowoomba well at the $100,000 Volvo Bus Racing Queensland Summer Provincial Series Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.
The Ducky Baker-trained runner finished third behind Allknight Saint and Handyman Bob in the series final, which showcased the top country runners from across the state.
Ben Currie-trained Tints (seventh) and Roma hope Performia (eighth) also contested the race.
