A tomahawk-wielding teenager who robbed two conveniences stores in the same city on the same night will serve less than five months behind bars.

Store CCTV footage of the robberies played in Toowoomba District Court showed Brandon Hounslow, 17, wielding a tomahawk as he and a juvenile co-offender entered Toowoomba's James Street 7/11 about 11pm and the Ruthven Street 7/11 about an hour later on April 14.

Hounslow and his 15-year-old mate got away with a small amount of cash in the first robbery where he smashed a glass door with the tomahawk on his way out.

During the second robbery, Hounslow thumped the counter with the tomahawk as the obviously frightened attendant retrieved cash from the till.

Both pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery in company, with Hounslow also pleaded guilty to two counts of wilful damage.
